New paper by Kukutai and Cormack: Datification and Indigenous communities...

A new paper by Maori scholar Dr. Tahu Kukutai and Donna Cormack looks at 'datafication' and the latest developments in datasharing and the integration of massive datasets by governments, NGOs and the private sector. The authors unpack the Orwellian Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI), a database managed by Stats NZ that links individual and household microdata. While Stats NZ reviews applications to use IDI, the process evidently does not require approval from an ethical review committee, nor external peer review from subject experts. Interesting times...
