And so another report that can be summarized, indeed is summarized, as "Overall, Indigenous Services Canada did not provide the support First Nations communities needed to manage emergencies such as floods and wildfires, which are happening more often and with greater intensity."

No surprise that the number of emergencies is increasing...

And of course the costs associated with these events are not inconsiderable...

So somewhat deflating - reiterating what FNs have been saying for many years now - but at least we have a mea culpa from the federal government that one can only hope marks the low point in Canadian DRR for First Nations and other Peoples (i.e., Inuit and Metis who are not a focus of this report).
On a positive note, we have known for some time that spending money on preparedness and mitigation - the key aspect of Disaster Risk Reduction or DRR - can save money in the long term.
